We dry-hire professional lawn renovation machines to homeowners and contractors across Perth: the same corers, scarifiers and verti-mowers we run on our own jobs. You do the work, we supply the gear and the settings.
If your lawn sheds water, feels rock hard underfoot, or browns off in patches every summer, the soil is compacted. A core aerator pulls plugs out of the ground so water, air and fertiliser can reach the root zone again. It is the single most effective thing you can do for a lawn that has stopped drinking. Rather we ran the machine? See our lawn aeration & coring service.
A wide, fast pushrod corer. It drives near-vertical holes and ejects the plugs automatically, so you cover ground quickly without stopping to clear tines.
Soil varies street to street across Perth, from soft coastal sand in the northern corridor to heavier ground further inland. Tell us your suburb, grass type and rough lawn size and we will tell you honestly whether coring is the right job, and what it will take.
Thatch is the spongy brown layer of runners and dead material that builds up between the green leaf and the soil. Once it gets past about 15 mm it starts shedding water and hiding pests. A scarifier, also called a dethatcher or verti-mower, cuts vertically through that layer and lifts it out.
Vertical blades slice through the thatch layer and bring it to the surface for removal. The single biggest visual change you can make to a tired lawn in one weekend.
A deeper, more aggressive cut than a scarifier. Sets the lawn back hard in the short term and brings it back thicker. Run it at the start of the growing season, not the end.
Our general-purpose hire corer for smaller lawns and tighter access. Check your gate width with us before you book and we will make sure the machine fits.
Hiring the wrong machine is the most common mistake we see. They solve two completely different problems, and running a scarifier over compacted soil will not fix compaction.
Water pools or runs off instead of soaking in. The ground is hard to push a screwdriver into. The lawn browns off first in high-traffic strips. You have clay or heavily compacted sand.
The lawn feels spongy or bouncy underfoot. There is a thick brown mat under the green. Mower wheels sink in. New growth sits on top of old runners rather than in soil.
Tell us your grass type and roughly how big the lawn is, and we will match the machine to your soil. If it turns out the job is bigger than a weekend, we will tell you that too.
Call 0427 206 246We dry-hire to homeowners and contractors right across the Perth metropolitan area, with most of our hire customers coming from the northern corridor. Lawn aerator hire, Perth scarifier hire and corer hire all work the same way: call us, tell us your lawn size and grass type, and we will have the right machine ready to collect.
Dry hire means you take the machine and operate it yourself. We supply the equipment, show you how it runs and what settings suit your grass type, and you do the work in your own time. If you would rather we ran the machine for you, that is our standard renovation service.
No licence is required. These are walk-behind petrol machines. You will need a vehicle capable of transporting the machine safely, or ask us about transport when you book.
They fix different problems. A corer or core aerator pulls plugs out of the soil to relieve compaction and let water and air reach the roots. A scarifier or verti-mower cuts vertically through the thatch layer sitting above the soil. Compacted, water-repellent ground wants a corer. A spongy lawn that feels thick underfoot wants a scarifier.
Rates depend on the machine and how long you need it. Call 0427 206 246 and we will quote the machine that suits your lawn size and soil, or use the full pricing calculator.
Yes, but set the blades shallower than you would for couch. Buffalo (Sir Walter, Palmetto, Sapphire) is a surface runner and does not tolerate being cut right to the soil. We will set the depth for you before you leave with the machine.
Spring through early summer, once the soil has warmed and the lawn is actively growing. Renovation work done in the growing season recovers in weeks; the same work done heading into winter just leaves the lawn thin and open. Hire gear books out fastest in spring, so call early.
